I spotted this cool 1951 Nash Statesman Super at a local Car Show in Puyallup, WA.
Bathtub styling came into it's own after WWII. It's called bathtub styling for a car's resemblance to an inverted bathtub on wheels. Another example of bathtubs are the postwar Hudsons. The Statesman model was less expensive than the Ambassador model and while the Statesman had an L-head 6, 184 cid, with Super or Custom trim. This Statesman 4-dr. cost around $1,955 new, whereas the Ambassador 4-dr. cost $2,304. This was the last year Nash had the bathtub styling for in '52 the Italian firm Pinin Farina design debuted. BUT, the wheel wells , as in this '51 would still be hidden making the turning radius and tire changing difficult. The statesman sported 85 hp, the Ambassador was powered by 115 horses.
